March 5/6, 2016 AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE WILDERNESS, WILDLIFE AND HUMAN INTERACTION CONFERENCE 

 

THE INDEPENDENT FILMS SUBMITTED TO THE FESTIVAL THROUGH THEIR EYES MUST ADDRESS CONFERENCE THEMES.

 

These THEMES are wide-ranging and multiple, they can include examinations of the relationship between wilderness and humanity in the past, present, or the future, investigations of the interaction between wildlife and wilderness amongst different peoples and tribal societies, interviews, explorations of ways of learning from past experience, of understanding the importance of both cultural and biological diversity, illustrations of new and old methods conserving biodiversity 1 of wild and domestic landscapes, spotlighting new research and original thinkers. They can even be funny.

1. Rules & regulations for submission to the 2016 THROUGH

THEIR EYES Independent Film Festival: Throughout this document the Cochrane Research Institute, CRI, will be called “The Institute”. The following is an explanation of The Institute’s rules and regulations covering the submission of a film (hereinafter called the “The Film”) for consideration at the Institute’s 2016 THROUGH THEIR EYES Film Festival (hereinafter called “the Festival”).

2. Terms&Conditions: By agreeing to the Terms and Conditions of the 2016 Cochrane Research Institute Film Festival, the person submitting the Film (hereinafter called “the Applicant”) acknowledges that he or she has obtained consent from any and all owners, creators, writers, Producers, and/or other authorized representatives of the Film (hereinafter called the “Film’s Owners”) whose consent is required to submit the Film to The Institute, and has read and understood the submission rules and regulations set forth below:

General rules for submission to the 2016 THROUGH THEIR EYES Independent Film Festival: IN OTHER WORDS, what do I need to do to submit my film?:

 

1. FORMS: Prior to submission of the Film, and in order to be considered for the Festival, the document (EXPRESSION OF INTEREST) must be completed and e-mailed (cei@nucleus.com or Ken@ceinst.org) or mailed to P.O.Box 484, Cochrane, Alberta, CANADA, T4C 1A7 prior to January 15, 2016. Once the e-mail or hard copy document has been received by the Cochrane Research Institute, response will be swift and by e-mail (unless a response by mail is specifically stipulated) and a SUBMISSION FORM sent out.

 

2. FORMS: The EXPRESSION OF INTEREST document should contain the

following information; Applicant’s contact information, Film Category, film & sound format, age of Producer, Director, Film crew (12 and under, 13 to 18 years of age, Adult), deadline window the Applicant anticipates his/her/their film to be sent to the Festival office and that the Applicant has obtained consent from any and all owners, creators, writers, Producers, and/or other authorized representatives of the Film whose consent is required in order to submit the Film to The Institute for screening at The Festival. The EXPRESSION OF INTEREST form can be found on the Cochrane Research Institute website www.cochraneresearchinstitute.org The EXPRESSION OF INTEREST document/information should be e- mailed directly to ken@ceinst.org or cei@nucleus.com

 

3. FEES: In order to be considered for The Festival, and only after the Applicant has received a response to his or her or their EXPRESSION OF INTEREST inquiry, the Applicant must complete the submission form provided by the Cochrane Research Institute and send it and the submission fees (Adults $40.00 per entry, 18 years and under $20.00) to the Festival Office at the Cochrane Research Institute (Film Festival) P.O.Box 484, Cochrane, AB, T4C 1A7, Canada, by February 1 2016, (Final post date). FEES can be sent by e-transfer, over the phone by Credit Card (Canada, 403 932 5632) to the Cochrane Research Institute or Happytails 403 851 2050, or by certified cheque made out to Cochrane Research Institute. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with a submission form that is considered to be delinquent due to the non- payment of submission fees.

 

4. FILMS: All No-Budget films ( 41 minutes or longer), Narrative, Documentary, Animated, must be submitted to the institute on a single disc (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL or Blu-ray) sent to P.O.Box 484, Cochrane, Alberta, T4C 1A7, Canada, by the final postmarked date (February 1, 2016, Final post date.) Payment must be included. The disc must be packaged in a Jewel box to ensure it arrives in a pristine condition. If the film arrives damaged it cannot be judged or shown. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any No- Budget Film ( 40 minutes or longer) that is not submitted using this format.

 

5. FILMS: All Short films (under 40 minutes), Narrative, Documentary, Animated must be submitted to the institute on a single disc (DVD-R,DVD+R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL or Blu-ray) sent to P.O.Box 484, Cochrane, Alberta, T4C 1A7, Canada, by the final postmarked date (February 1, 2016, Final post date). Payment must be included. The disc must be packaged in a Jewel box to ensure it arrives in a pristine condition. If the film arrives damaged it cannot be judged or shown. If multiple Short Films are submitted on a single disc –unless it is clear that the multiple films are made by different Applicants and each Applicant has provided a Fee- The Institute reserves the right to judge only the first film on the disc, with no further obligation to review the remaining contents of the disc. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Short Film (under 40 minutes) that is not submitted using this format.

 

6. FILMS: All Short-short films (under 10 minutes), Narrative, Documentary, Animated must be submitted to the institute on a single disc (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL or Blu-ray) sent to P.O.Box 484, Cochrane, Alberta, T4C 1A7, Canada, by the final postmarked date (February 1, 2016, Final post date). 7. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Short Film (under 40 minutes) that is not submitted using this format. 

 

8. SHIPPING: It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the submitted disc arrives at the shipping destination provided to the Applicant by the Festival on the Submission form (P.O.Box 484, Cochrane, Alberta, T4C 1A7, CANADA.) In the event that a submitted disc does not arrive at the designated shipping destination within the deadline window selected on the EXPRESSION OF INTEREST and submission form by the Applicant, The Institute will attempt, but is under no obligation, to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the EXPRESSION OF INTEREST document in an effort to obtain another submission form & copy of the film. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that does not arrive at the designated shipping destination within the deadline window selected by the Applicant.
